2024 Presentation Descriptions

Room 1: 11am-12pm
Green Makes Me Happy: How Nature and Animals Improve Mental Health

Heather Hanlin

As a beings of nature, being in nature and interacting with nature has wonderful restorative benefits. Because the natural world is complex and ever changing, we feel alignment with our complex and fluid inner world. Strangely this complexity has a calming effect on our brains and nervous systems because those systems were built with nature in mind. Experiencing naturally occurring cycles and energy movement helps us better understand and be able to work with the cycles and rhythms within us in order to be healthier and happier.

Room 1: 12:30pm-2:30pm
Beltane: The Other Hallows

Mortellus will journey with you through Beltane’s many associations with death, and rituals to celebrate that balance of growth and decay. Mortellus encourages active participation, so pull up a chair and don’t be afraid to share your thoughts!

As practitioners, we form intimate bonds with the elements of our practice as well as the gods and guides that we petition to support our work. Room 2: 2pm-3pm
Fear to Power: Snake Magic

Kacie Brunette

My goal is to share my love and joy for our snake allies through storytelling and education. Knowledge is power and I believe knowledge is the antidote to the instinctual fear reaction snakes can cause. Overcoming my own debilitating fear of spiders opened the door to so much growth and I hope to share that journey with those whose fear of snakes holds them back on their spiritual journey. I know it can be hard to relax and enjoy the magic of a friendly snake visiting your meditation if you’re caught in fight or flight mode. I will share stories of alternative cultural views of snakes throughout history along with educational material regarding the local snakes class attendees may encounter. I will also discuss the ways we can use snake energy in our spiritual practice and assist attendees in making their own snake energy charms to take home.

Room 2: 3:30pm-5:30pm
Crafting Plant Ally Poppets

Eimi OstaraMoon

In folk magic and witchcraft, a poppet is usually a doll made to represent a person for casting spells on that person or to aid that person through magic. When made with magical plant materials, a poppet can become a talisman or amulet that represents the plants' spirits, embodying the magical powers of these plant allies. In this workshop, Eimi will demonstrate how to create a simple plant ally poppet using plant materials. From gathering the materials to crafting the poppet to ensouling and working with it, Eimi will offer step-by-step guidelines based on her own practice.
Attendees are welcome to bring materials to create their own poppets during the workshop.
Pre-made material kits are also available to purchase from Poison and Bee (Booth E10) during the event, ranging from $15-$18.

Room 4: 11am-12pm
Conjuring Athleticism

Andrew Skeen

I will be lecturing on using astrological and planetary magic to improve health, boost vitality, and more easily attain whatever health-and-fitness related outcome we desire. From a brief description of the basic astrological principles which inform sorcerous work in this domain, I intend to discuss how astrology and astrological magic may be used for a variety of fitness purposes, starting with simple astrological elections for broad goals ("be healthy", "longevity", etc) and moving to specific and powerful configurations based on the individual natal chart. I will provide example electional charts for both cases and explain the logic which informs how these configurations change moving from the general to the specific. Finally, I will close with a note on using applied magic in cases where we lack domain-specific knowledge, what I call "witchcraft under uncertainty".

Room 4: 12:30pm-2pm
The Poison Path: Dark Herbalism, Occult Poisons & Magical Practice

Coby Michael

Poisonous plants, “invasive weeds,” dead flowers and weird mushrooms have a way of making people uncomfortable. Some are attracted to this uniqueness, while others give puzzled looks from a safe distance. Through working with these allies one begins to get a sense for this subtle power that creeps through the natural world, and one quickly realizes that all plant have a wild and untamable side they are willing to show those who approach them without fear. In this presentation Coby will discuss what “baneful” and “dark” means in connection to green witchcraft. Learning the nuances in things that we consider dark and dangerous teaches us that the world is not black and white, and if we can shift the way we think about these concepts we can access hidden power through self-knowledge and cultivating individual relationships with our plant allies. Through the intermediary nature of our allies from the plant and fungi realm we can connect to the Otherness that is so familiar to practitioners of witchcraft. We will dive into the hidden realm of occult poisons and their deeply ingrained place in witchcraft. Attendees will learn how to construct a Poison Bottle for warding the home from spiritual toxins and cultivating this force for spell work. We will discuss the sympathetic and symbolic nature of a variety of ingredients and their connection to poison magic.

Room 4: 2:30pm-4pm
Divine Embodiment: Assumption, Drawing Down, Aspecting, Possession

Ivo Dominguez Jr.

Most magickal traditions use some form of divine embodiment in their rituals in which a priestess or a priest becomes for a time the vehicle for the presence of one of the Great Ones. When it works, it is awe-inspiring, and can act as a great catalyst for change. When it fails, and is no more than role playing or ritual theater, it can encourage cynicism, disillusionment, and diminished expectations of what is possible in ritual. The strengths and the weaknesses of assumption of god forms, drawing down, aspecting, and divine possession will be compared to each other.

Room 4: 4:30pm-5:30pm
"The Oracle"
A ritual theater show

Charles Morehead

Room 5: 11am-12pm
Trauma-Informed Readings

Amie Campbell

Witches have been helping people through their darkest times for as long as there have been witches. But what do you do when the person sitting across the table is dealing with significant trauma or mental illness? This class will discuss how to recognize distress and respond in caring ways that protect the health of both parties.

Room 5: 12:30pm-1:30pm
Amarres - The Most Dangerous Love Spell of Mexico

Eric Labrado

In this presentation we will explore the most infamous love spell of Mexico, the amarre. Contrary to belief this is not your average spell! In Mexico the amarre is feared because of its unique ability to "tie" the souls of two people together. Fnord and Void: An Introduction to Discordian Cosmogony

Thumper Forge

Generally known as a parody religion based on the worship of the Greek Goddess Eris, Discordianism offers a surprisingly nonsense-free worldview, as well as a practical, postmodern take on occultism. Since its inception, Discordianism has quietly influenced everything from fiction and literature to electronic dance music... AND NOW IT CAN INFLUENCE YOU. (But only with your consent. Discordianism totally respects boundaries.) Topics explored will include the Discordian creation myth; the Five Discordian Elements (Boom, Pungent, Sweet, Prickle, and Orange); the Apostles of Eris; the Law of Eristic Escalation; and the Curse of Greyface and how to defeat it. We will also discuss why cockroaches make the best psychopomps.
