Throughout the 4000 years of Chinese culture and history, poison (du) has weaved itself into the cultural fabric to become an integral part of it. Whether it is in traditional medicine or esoteric practices, poison is ever-present, not as a taboo but as a part of everyday life. Poison is not always considered harmful or evil, but rather a balancing element. In this presentation, Eimi explores the relationship between Chinese people and poison. We will also examine the roles that poisons play in Traditional Chinese Medicine, Chinese alchemy, and Daoist sorcery as well as folk magic.

Fear to Power: The Maternal Spider

My goal is to share my love and joy for our Spider allies through storytelling and education. Knowledge is power and I believe knowledge is the antidote to the instinctual fear reaction that can take over our lives. Overcoming my own debilitating fear of spiders opened the door to so much growth and I hope to share that journey with those whose fear of spiders holds them back on their spiritual journey. I know it can be hard to relax in the garden or on a mental health nature walk and are surprised by a friendly spider if you’re caught in fight or flight mode in response. I will share stories of alternative cultural views of spiders throughout history along with educational material regarding the local common spiders class attendees may encounter. I will also discuss the ways we can use spider energy in our witchcraft and spiritual practice. In honor of Mother’s Day weekend, in this workshop we will be making a Maternal Protection Charm for class attendees to take home for themselves or as a gift for Mother in their life.
